How to Measure Usable Warehouse Clear Height

Measure below the lowest obstruction

Map beams, lights and other overhead services on a bay plan. Record the lowest obstruction in each proposed rack zone and have the layout team check lift clearance and required separation. Compare usable storage levels across buildings.

Brochure height and usable clearance are different records

Mansi’s M-101 brochure states 12 m clear height. That gives a starting specification for an enquiry; it does not establish the usable space above every proposed rack position. Beams, services, equipment and the layout can impose local constraints. Confirm the reference points used in the specification.

Make a zone-by-zone clearance schedule

RecordWhy it matters
Zone and drawing referenceA dimension is useful only when its location is clear.
Brochure or design dimensionShows what was advertised or designed.
Verified usable clearanceShows the relevant obstruction and who checked it.
Proposed storage and handling equipmentAllows the layout designer to assess the actual operating envelope.
Outstanding technical reviewKeeps unresolved separation and equipment requirements visible.

Arrange appropriate verification with the property and layout teams; this guide is not an instruction to access roof structures or work at height. Keep the drawing version and measurement date with the record. Review the lowest relevant obstructions, not merely the height at the building’s highest point.

Do not convert height directly into pallet capacity

The number of storage levels depends on load dimensions, rack design, handling equipment and the clearances established by the relevant specialists. A taller brochure dimension does not, on its own, prove a higher usable pallet count. Request a layout for the same inventory profile in each candidate building.

Use the M-101 specification sheet alongside the offered unit’s drawings to record which facts are published and which still need verification.
