How to Plan a Backup Truck Route to a Warehouse

Prepare for a blocked warehouse approach by testing a backup truck route, alternate gate and dispatch procedure in advance.

Verify that the backup route can carry the same truck

Have the landlord identify alternate access and confirm which gates can be opened for freight. Ask the carrier to review restrictions, turns and overhead clearance. Agree a controlled test at an appropriate time and document the route, access authority and approved waiting point.

Give dispatch a clear decision rule

Record who can activate the alternate gate and which customers need notice of a delay. When the primary road closes, confirm the backup is open before sending vehicles. If neither approach is available, hold the truck at the agreed location and reschedule the receiving slot. Keep the route instructions with dispatch and security.
