Start with peak inventory, then convert it into pallet positions using your actual packaging and stacking limits. Add space for receiving, dispatch, returns and any inventory that needs to be held separately.
Draw a basic layout before comparing square footage
On a scaled plan, place the racks and work areas around columns and docks. Reserve aisles for your handling equipment and have your layout reviewed for safe movement and clear exit routes.
For example, a peak of 1,200 pallets with four usable storage levels starts at 300 rack locations at floor level. That calculation comes before allowances for empty slots, staging and aisle space.
